profile of Katie Donovan's hardship
(summary of her essay)
All students deserve a chance to succeed, regardless of what else might get in their way.
In Katie's case, she deals with both dyslexia and hypertension.
She has spent much of her academic career learning to overcome the dyslexia, working to sound out words, and get clues on how to spell words until it becomes natural.
Throughout highschool, she was active in the Sunol 4-H, and the Foothill High School color guard.
For two years, she acted as the club president in the 4-H, and has also been involved in the showing of pigs at the Alameda County fair.
One of the most significant challenges she dealt with in highschool, and afterward was Pulmonary Hypertension, a condition she was not even aware of until high school.
In her case the condition presented itself suddenly as a collection of problems.
After some time dealing with doctors, hospitals, etc, she became much more aware of the kinds of problems that some people deal with, and has come out of it a better and much stronger person.
